Raw Material Mixing & Feeding

● Starting point: PVC resin powder, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments (for coloring), fillers, etc.

● Process: Ingredients are precisely weighed according to the formula, then fed into a high-speed mixer (also called a kneader). They’re vigorously mixed and heated to form a uniform, fluffy, pre-plasticized blend.

● Next step: The hot mixture is cooled in a cooling mixer to prevent clumping, then transferred to the extruder’s hopper.

High-Temperature Extrusion & Shaping

Key equipment: Extruder (main unit + die head)

Process:

● The mixture enters a single or twin-screw extruder from the hopper.

● Inside the heated barrel, rotating screws convey, shear, melt, and compress the material into a sticky PVC melt.

Shaping:

● The molten PVC is forced through a specially designed wide T-die (flat die). The die opening determines the edgeband’s width and thickness.

● The melt is squeezed out like "toothpaste," forming a continuous, molten PVC sheet of specific thickness.

Calendering & Cooling

Key equipment: Three-roller calender + cooling unit.

Process:

The hot, soft PVC sheet from the die instantly enters the three-roller calender. These large, temperature-controlled metal rollers:

● Precisely adjust the sheet’s thickness and uniformity.

● Give it a smooth, flat finish (especially top and bottom surfaces).

● Begin initial cooling/solidifying.

Further cooling:

● The still-warm sheet passes through a multi-stage cooler (water-cooled rollers or tanks).

● Here, it cools to room temperature, fully solidifying into a strong, flexible PVC base strip.

Printing/Surface Treatment (Optional)

Equipment: Printer (e.g., gravure press), embossing rollers.

Process:

● For woodgrain/stone patterns, the cooled strip passes through a printing unit. Patterns are transferred onto the surface using gravure printing.

● Embossing rollers may add texture (e.g., woodgrain feel) for realism.

● Printed designs are dried/fixed in an oven.

Back Coating (Optional)

Equipment: Coating machine, drying oven.

Process:

● To simplify use for furniture makers, a hot melt adhesive is coated onto the strip’s back.

● The base/printed strip passes through a coater, applying an even layer of melted adhesive.

● An oven dries/solidifies the glue, creating a "pre-glued" edgeband.

Pulling & Winding

Key equipment: Puller, winder.

Process:

● A puller (rubber rollers) grips the finished strip, pulling it steadily to synchronize line speed.

● The continuous PVC strip is wound by a large winder into a master jumbo roll (semi-finished product).

● Proper tension control ensures neat, firm rolls.

Slitting (Separate process)

Note: The "wide" line produces master rolls (e.g., 1m–1.2m wide).

Final customer needs (e.g., 22mm, 35mm strips) are met by a slitting machine.

This machine cuts the master roll lengthwise into narrow strips, then rewinds them into small rolls or cuts them to length.
