I think we can all agree that polyurethane extrusion is a sweet method of creating things from plastic. Imagine squeezing play-dough through a mold to create a fun shape. But instead of play-dough, we work with a special type of plastic known as polyurethane. Let us understand a little about polyurethane extrusion process and what makes this technology so awesome!
The idea of polyurethane extrusion is we take raw materials, heat them up, and push them through a small hole to form a particular shape. It’s sort of like if you used a cookie cutter to make cookies, except instead of dough, we use polyurethane plastic. This process lets us make all kinds of things, like tubes and rods and even custom shapes that are useful to other industries.

The extrusion process for polyurethane is pretty straightforward. 1 mixing, we combine the raw materials (usually a liquid resin and a hardening agent). Then we melt the mixture, so it becomes soft and gooey. We then pass the mix through a die – a special tool that moulds the plastic into the required shape. Lastly, we cool off the plastic in order to harden it into its finished shape. The process is sort of like making a pancake - pour, shape, cook!
